WANT A ROUND THE WORLD TICKET? YOU NEED TO BE USING THE RIGHT CREDIT CARD(S) TO ACCUMULATE THE REQUIRED MILES

Indeed most money insights websites offer at least a post on “Best credit card to accumulate air miles”. However, many don’t tell you what is most suitable for you, e.g. the best credit card to accumulate air miles based on spending pattern.

I always believed that one shouldn’t just have a credit card to accumulate your air miles. That’s because you don’t just spend on one category. To be honest, I have accumulated enough miles on personal expenditure within 3 years to get a “round-the-world” ticket from Star Alliance with just 2 credit cards, and I am sure I’ve did my survey well enough.

I believe most of our spending pattern don’t defer a lot from one another – dining, insurance, travel and transportation. However, what are the tricks and which is the card to use are the questions to consider.

While DBS Altitude card provides entry income level to accumulate miles, and every $1 spent locally gives you 1.2 miles sure sounds not bad. The UOB Krisflyer debit card that offers 1.4 miles for $1 spent that is recently launched beat that. However, it only works if you can putting your miles on Krisflyer. I am on Krisflyer, but I stayed on with DBS Altitude. Reason being 3 miles for every $1 spent on hotels booking website such as Agoda, expedia etc. (as long as it’s travel booking sites). This is the reason of holding on to this card for me.

However, whatever non-travel related expenses, it is all charged to my UOB Prvi card. Since there’s a priority banking hotline, I earn 1.4 miles per $1 spent locally and 2.4 miles per $1 spent overseas (DBS Altitude offers 2 miles per $1 spent overseas). Another plus point would be if you are a UOB Prvi Mastercard member, it entitles you to be in the World Mastercard Rewards program, which you can attain SPG Gold tier with just one night stay at selected hotels.  That gives me late check-out, additional amenities, etc. when staying at a Starwood property. Needless to say, I packed all my expenses to this card. The downside of this card, it required annual income of $80,000 which can be a little high for folks who just started out marking their career, and that makes some sense to get a Citibank PremierMiles card.

While Citibank PremierMiles gives you the same miles accumulation with DBS Altitude card, it provides you with the option to change your citi miles to hotels’ loyalty programmes rewards points, such as IHG Rewards and Hilton HHonors. If you can’t be much bothered about taking commercial or budget airline as long as you get there, the hotels’ loyalty programmes rewards points might be worth the value for you!

Having said so much, let me break it down for you:

PRODUCT REVIEW: CASIO EXILIM FR100L

If you’re not familiar with Casio FR100 to begin with, it’s a multi-functional detachable camera, which seamed into your daily lifestyle. Regardless of what activities you are doing, be it paragliding, canoeing, hiking (I’ve done all these with Casio FR100 previously), it has the ability to capture all your adventures through photos and videos, or even a mix of it.

Having review Casio FR100 previously, the Casio FR100L no doubt is meant for ladies, especially petite ones. Why? The reason lies with the improved features. Standing at 152cm, the long legs guide feature got me excited. While we know the tricks to get longer and slimmer legs is to shoot from a lower angle, it is not as flattering at times especially if you have a rounder face. Speaking about “dummy-proof”? Simply align the long leg guide features and you get the 170cm longer and slimmer legs.

While most of us are familiar with Casio TR series cameras and their remarkable make-up mode(you can even see strands of hair, instead of lumps), even though Casio FR100 has adopted the make-up mode, but it is not as comprehensive as Casio FR100L. With the new inclusion of two Make-up Art modes for the latter– Make-up HDR and Make-up Vivid, you get to take quality selfies anytime, anywhere.

CIMG0840
Water resistant up to 2 metres depth, makes it easier to document water activities

While all Casio cameras make-up mode allows user to set the skin smoothness and skin tone, with Casio FR100L’s Make-up HDR, it enhances your image with the surrounding, creating a stronger contrast between sceneries and selfies. As for Make-up Vivid, apart from maintaining a smooth skin, it also creates a vibrant backdrop, which makes it more social media worthy.

Improved convenience

While travels has become affordable these days (thanks to budget airlines, Airbnb, travel app deals etc,.), having a camera to document your journey has become a thing that one have to bring along on every trip. Indeed, our phone cameras are not too bad to begin with. The question is, can we remotely control our camera while standing at a distance to take a picture? Can we be assured that the moment we turn out head away from our phone, someone will not pick it up and walk away with it? (There goes your contacts, pictures, login information, or even credit card details)

Now, Casio FR100L’s detachable camera lens comes in handy. Be it taking a picture with Mount Fuji or the iconic Taipei 101 during your travels (we know our arms’ length limit and our faces would be right smack in the picture, making us look enormous beside the landmarks if we are going for a phone selfie), you could easily place the camera lens on the ground, and step out with the LCD screen which act as the remote control. The Make-up HDR also comes in handy in situation like this! Without having to compromise your image beauty, and building the contrast with the landmarks, it solved the problem of using features improvement apps.

Having mentioned some of the functions that sounds like something Meitu xiu xiu can achieve as well, you will be glad to know, these settings can be saved and preset, which saves you the trouble from altering your skin smoothness, removing visible blemishes and changing your skin tone. Users can transfer images from the camera to their phone via Bluetooth or wifi, using the EXILIM Connect app, and upload it to their social media feeds almost immediately. With that, it gives you more time to be exploring a new city, heading out for a new adventure, or simply head outdoor and have fun.

Hate outdoors? Attach the camera lens to a higher platform and take your flat lay pictures. Be it at the café, bar, or even at home. It eliminates the problem of casting your shadow on, or raising your hands up high and can’t even see what you are shooting.

Regardless of which kind of lifestyle you prefer, you will still find convenience in Casio FR100L.

Casio FR100L is available in White and Pink, retailing at $699.
